I've been neglecting this page ever since SomethingToDoWithBeans being low. The Boss doesn't know what to do, not much people joining the event anymore, moreover, most the admins are in the UK, studying. Even myself, I went to Malaysia for study, so the boss just focus on BruNerf where we receive a lot of followers.

My assignments are not so 'art' but more in design, but really basic however, I won;t post up any of my assignments work. Just my random photography work. I am not a pro, I just like taking photos.

I'm very impress! I've been thingking about this (kinda) for STDWB event (for admin only) weeks ago but since I'm busy with study, so I just shut it. And now, seeing them like this are WICKED. Brilliant job guys!

Unfortunate event arise due to the depature of my Mac. It's dead, ok well it's more like coma. Therefore, the latest videos of MJ tribute practise/rehearsal and photos are all.... well it's not gone but still stuck in my Mac. Anyway, my Mac is suffering the damage of its logic board. Cost me around $1000 so, empty pocket means no medical treatment for him. LOL!

Anyway, on behalf of SomethingToDoWithBeans admin, I would like to wish all Muslims a very Happy Fasting! Sorry that I hardly upload any of my artwork anymore. And yeah, I have my own slogan for STDWB.

MJ Tribute at The Mall. I missed this event last weekend where the locals performed a special tribute to the late MJ. They had practices prior to the dance tribute. The idea was initiated by a group called "Somethingtodowithbeans" and they have been pretty proactive in organising creative gimmicks such as the High Five, Marco! and the "Freeze" to see the reaction of the public.

The "Freeze" was one of the first social experiment that took place and it was a great success despite the H1N1 scare back then. Then the next social experiment was the High Five, Marco! and the result was pretty favourable as 385 out of 500 people responded to the High Five which shows that Bruneians are friendly people.

The latest experiment was the MJ Tribute Dance which happened last weekend and judging from the pictures, there were quite a handful who participated in the dance. Congratulations to the team for organising such activities and this is one of the positive steps that should be carried from time to time and also get support from the Government. Keep it up, guys! REMEMBER Marco? Our own friendly High Five man from the highly unpredictable group of youths known only as "SomethingToDoWithBeans" (STDWB). Fresh from their latest exploit of trying to answer the question "How friendly are the people of Brunei Darussalam?" the group took Marco on a road trip to Kuala Belait for another experiment.

Speaking to The Brunei Times, the members explained that it was a rather challenging experiment as they were not familiar with the venue, in this case Pandan 7 Soon Lee Supermarket at Kuala Belait. They were however surprised to find out how friendly the people of Kuala Belait were especially the security guards who assisted them in scouting the most suitable location for Marco to offer his high fives.

Similar to Marco's last High Five project, the group measured the level of friendliness of Bruneians with the number of high fives that Marco receives. The people who gave Marco a high five need not worry as Marco was fully sanitised and he was given a protective mask as well as a glove to wear for his high five hand to reassure the public's concerns on the current threat of the Influenza A (H1N1).

Marco placed himseld in two different spots—at the front entrance of the supermarket before moving to the back entrance of the super market. This is different from their last exploit which was inspired by the YouTube video posted by Improv Everywhere entitled "High Five Escalator" where Rob the main character in the video gave high fives to random people during the morning subway commute in New York City.

The result was astounding— Marco received a total of 167 high fives out of 202 in a period of one hour, a percentage of 82 percent successful high fives which goes to show the people of Kuala Belait, Brunei Darussalam are outstandingly friendly.

"It was a different experience compared to what we did at the Mall Gadong but still the element of surprise was there and I was surprised at the overwhelming participation from the people of Kuala Belait," said Marco.

He was also taken aback by the number of high fives received from the older generation.

HOW friendly is Brunei Darussalam? The highly unpredictable group of youth known only as "SomethingToDoWithBeans" made it their latest goal in their latest exploit simply titled "High Five,Marco!".

This time the group were influenced by the YouTube video posted by Improv Everywhere entitled "High Five Escalator" where Rob the main character in the video gave high fives to random people during the morning subway commute in New York City.

Our local improv group's version takes place at the first floor escalator of The Mall Gadong for an hour during lunch time.

" It was a great experience, in addition to looking at the shocked faces as they realise what they did (giving Marco a high five) a smile could be seen on their faces and in a way I felt like I've made their day," said Marco on his experience of giving people high fives.

The group decided to go with the high five as it is generally known all around the world and anyone can give or receive a high five. To reduce the threat or to reassure the public's concerns on the current threat of the Influenza A (H1N1) Marco was fully sanitised and he was given a protective mask as well as a glove to wear for his high five hand.

The objective of this wildly amusing stunt is to survey and answer: How Friendly are the people of Brunei Darussalam? Astonishingly, 385 people gave Marco a high five out of 500. The answer is as what we all expected—Brunei is friendly.

THE public saw something unexpected on Sunday at The Mall. What they saw was something to behold, people walking and suddenly freezing in suspended animation.

The event was organised by a group of young people with a vision who call themselves "SomethingToDoWithBeans". Their objective was to provoke the minds of the public.

This random act of street performance arts is open to the general public's own interpretation. The whole public display of expression was the brain child of the initial five founders.

"We wanted to introduce Brunei to something different, a form of performance art and see the reaction given by the public," said Ben Stone, one of the founders, in an interview with The Brunei Times.

" It was our own private social experiment," he added.

What was more amazing was the huge number of volunteers who actually participated.

In just a short period of time (two weeks), more than a hundred people attended the briefing held at Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf in Gadong and participated in the public display of self expression.

This was made possible with the use of the Internet especially social networking sites such as Facebook as well as the increasingly popular Twitter.

"We just invited close friends and the whole thing spread like wild fire,"said Ben.

Some of the participants informed the organisers that they heard about the event through forwarded emails, word of mouth and forwarded invites from Facebook which reached the people of Brunei all around the four districts.

Initially, the whole set up was organised out of the curiosity of the group wondering how people would react? Who would participate in such an extreme public display?

At the event, the volunteers spread themselves out around the target venue, in this case, the ground floor of The Mall and froze for a period of five minutes precisely at 3:20pm.

At that exact moment, groups of people (non-participants) crowded the human statues some taking pictures of the different poses and some actually recorded the whole thing which can be seen on another popular site YouTube—the official video is still in the editing process and will be uploaded once completed.

The group initially predicted that the number of participation would be roughly around 20 to 40 but the turn up on the day itself was beyond their expectation. Almost 200 people showed up comprising mostly of youths.

"Even senior citizens (joined)! I was surprised with the warm reception we got," said Ben.

As for the initial objective of the event, it quickly developed into something more than just a random act of public performance.

A group of participants took the opportunity to spread the H1N1 awareness by donning on protective masks and in their "freeze pose" displaying a sign that read " H1N1 Help Us!".

With that notion more and more volunteers suggested ideas and supported the group for organising the whole unique event.

"Other groups sometimes focus on only talking but we emphasise more on action and with the suggestions and response from the volunteers who participated in the mass display of public expression (and in a way a bit of performing arts), we will organise another unexpected activity so look out for updates soon," said Ben.

The event organized by the group 'Something To Do With Beans' have been given great response so far. Thanks to the Boss, Ben Stone, who had this vision in mind after viewing couples of Freezing videos. We will make another event soon! So I'm officially among the admins of 'Something To Do With Beans'.

I thank all people who involve in this event, both the admins and participants, who made the event happening! =D I thank to all who support us too! You guys are awesome! This is our first event and I think we did well and manage well too. Tho' some part of it we didn't really organize well.. (sorry for that, excuse us since it's our 1st event) =D

I'm defining 'Arts' as a whole. From painting to sculpture, from music to theater and from photography to design. Every single thing is an Art to me. I'm not sure when I started to love art but I remember, like any other kids, I love to scribbled and doodled on the wall. From my house to my dad's office. I doodle a lot. I remembered my dad got someone to repaint his office and forbid me to write anything on the wall except paper. Well, paper is my friend at that time. And when I'm in primary 5, I remember I was told off because I scribble my own text book and didn't listened to whatever was taught.

Though during my time in primary school I had my art lesson but it's only simple thing like "My house", "My Pet", "Awan Larat" and "Lukisan Bebas" but it's just simple and we're judge by how proper we colored, how we draw it nicely and how neat it looks. I remembered my highest score for my art was 49/50. Yet I feel my art is lame because there's a friend of mine, Hexon, who drew "Awang Budiman" so wonderful. My art is mostly and creatively play with colours. And I have to admit I'm not a good still life artist. When I'm in primary 2, a boy who sat next to me draw an abstract and I found it very beautiful, however, my teacher thought it's bullshit coz it appears to be nothing like something. To be honest, Fine art is not in Brunei's dictionary at those times. Still Life is the only thing Brunei called it Art.

Nowadays, any sort of Arts are in Brunei's dictionary but it's just quite plain. Graffiti artists are mostly still striving to make Graffiti as Art not vandalism. And other Artists (Fine Arts, Still Life, Sculpture etc.) are doing other things for living and do art as part of their other income. In Brunei, there's no full-time artists. But yet, the involvement in Arts are started to flourish in Brunei esp. Photography. It increases tremendously from year to year. And now, some locals started to do short-movie/video part of their hobby.

When I entered PTEB (Pusat Tingkatan Enam, Berakas - Sixth Form Centre) I study Art & Design, Economics and Geography. Though I never study any kinds of art during my time in Secondary school yet in college art is the reason I love going to school. And I think we're quite lucky enough to be taught by an artist/designer, Mr. Vijen Vijendren. We never knew him well, thought he's just an art tutor. Yet I can sense him that he know Art very intense. The way he motivates us, explaining art and see things differently gives me great interest. And that's when I started to understand Art perfectly, it's nothing about beauty and perfection but it's all from the heart and that's how the art look so beauty. And as it comes from the heart, everything seems to be logic.

Well, I'm use to be accurate, neat and tidy because I'm a GMD (Geometrical Mechanical Drawing) student when I was in upper secondary. And now, I'm all mixed up with accuracy and messy. Sometimes, I plan what I'm going to do with my art but sometimes I do it spontaneously. Yes, I'm a spontaneous person that hardly plans anything because I believe planning is nothing because things just happen in the way we do not want. So, I'm all mix up with my identity and my skills, plus, my interest are hugely varieties.

I love the art of theater and movie just like I love the art of graffiti. Nowadays, that's what people do for their hobby. Doing short film, stop-motion etc. For example, a friend of mine, Ben Stone. He did stop-motion and time-lapse photography. I think this is great as part of wasting my free time. Doing something fun and creative though to my parents eyes it's just something for jokes and useless. haha.

Anyway, most of my mates are all creatively different. Some of them are specialize to certain types of art. It depends on their interest. Currently, my friends were specialize nearly every sort of arts; graffiti, stencil, wheat-paste, short-film, stop-motion, fine-art, sculpture, photography, make-up, fashion design, product design, performing arts, music, graphic design etc. I can't mention all of their names here but seems like if we unite it all, we can make a production! haha.
